We know, we know you want to see the Hollywood sign and Pier 39. That’s nice. But there are so many hidden gems between Los Angeles and San Francisco that you can miss if you just visit the big cities … So here are some of the best places to visit on your journey.
Death Valley National Park
There is a little bit of everything in this park. Beautiful views of the desert and canyons, trails, hikes and even salty apartments. Don’t miss: the rainbow of Artist’s Palette rocks and the salt surfaces of the Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America.
Yosemite National Park
If you are exploring more than 3,000 kilometers, you could spend days in Yosemite and see only a small part of the park. There are designated camping, hiking and even caravan parking spaces, ideal for your adventure. Just be careful: if you plan to visit Yosemite in the winter or spring, you should check to see if the park roads are open on your travel dates, as they may be closed due to snow.
Don’t miss: Mirror Lake and the beautiful waterfalls around the park, especially the famous Bridalveil Falls.
If you are driving on Highway 1 and need accommodation, do it all day. This small, lovely town has a lot to offer – from spas and wine tastings to charming eateries and a peaceful beach – you’re sure to find something you love.
